According to a report shared by journalist Jason Schreier on Tuesday (2), Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Inc. will include the possibility of creating transgender characters in the game Hogwarts Legacy, in order to combat the controversial statements of the writer JKRowling.
According to internal sources at developer Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy it will allow the personalization of the gender of the characters to include trans protagonists, with the possibility of combining female or male voices to any type of body, regardless of whether the class chosen is a sorceress or witch. The move comes as an initiative to overcome recent controversies involving the creator of the Harry Potter franchise, who shared comments and images understood as transphobia by fans.
The news published in the Bloomberg reinforced that there was also some resistance from the direction of the title to add trans characters, with much of the conflicts involving the main game designer Troy Leavitt, who had a YouTube channel with videos attacking feminism and representativeness in the gaming world, in addition to supporting the Gamergate community, where fans commonly attack game developers for progressive views.
Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S / X and PC, still with no estimated date of arrival.
